Located between the Mont Saint Michel Bay and the city of Saint Malo, Cancale is an unmissable stopover for any oyster lover. Famous visitors to the town include Jacques Cartier (the Breton explorer who claimed what is now Canada for France), and Robert Surcouf the notorious corsair. Today, the town is known all over the world for its seafood, especially the unique taste of its oysters.
The port of La Houle in Cancale has become a haven for visitors to reside during their stay. At low tide and from the vantage point of the port itself, around 400 hectares of exquisite scenery are visible.
From spat to harvest, a Cancale oyster develops for a minimum of three years in the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay. Numerous conditions must be met for an oyster to grow, especially considering that this area has among the highest tides in all of Europe. After a visit to la Ferme Marine de Cancale, visitors will know all the secrets of the oyster world.
Single visitors and groups are both welcome on the tour, and staff always entertain with their family history and expertise.
La Ferme Marine de Cancale also holds an impressive exhibition to round off any trip: a collection of seashells from around the world, where maritime enthusiasts can browse more than 1500 different kinds of shell.
